The UK Flavour Association has named James Smith, Managing Director of Kalsec Europe Ltd, as its new Chairman. Smith takes over from Synergy Flavours’ Steve Morgan, having held the position of Vice Chair in 2017, a year that saw the Association celebrating its Centenary milestone with a gala dinner for the flavourings industry.
The celebrations were part of London Flavour Day, an initiative established by the European Flavour Association (EFFA), of which the UK Flavour Association is a member, to bring policy makers, customers and food and drink associations together for discussions about the future of food and the role that flavourings play in key consumer trends.
Smith commented: “The UK is a world-leader in the field of flavour and sensory science and the UK Flavour Association has played a key role in supporting the industry for more than a Century. The flavour industry is pivotal in enabling food manufacturers to offer ever more exciting and exotic dishes to consumers, but also in broadening the use of dwindling or unstable resources. I’m thrilled to have assumed the role as the Association’s Chair at a time when the uncertainties of Brexit call on the industry to pull together to ensure we are able to retain our leadership position globally into the future.”
The UK Flavour Association has also recently launched its new-look website, which has been overhauled to be an information-packed destination with useful resources, legislative updates and membership details for those operating within the flavour industry. Recognising the need to bring fresh talent into the industry, the Association’s new site also includes a section advising on career paths for flavourists of the future.
Through the new website and its ongoing activity to build on the impact of its Centenary year, the UK Flavour Association will continue its work highlighting the vital role of the flavourings industry in bringing safe, delicious, affordable and sustainable food and beverages to consumers around the world.
The new website is now live at http://www.ukflavourassociation.org/, where you can find more information about the Association and how to become a member.
